Georgia Tech Baseball: Joey Bart’s sock rising among division one catchers

It’s week five of the NCAA Division I college baseball season, and one Yellow Jackets position player’s stock is rapidly rising among position players.

Georgia Tech (12-7, 2-4 ACC) is five weeks weeks deep into its 2017 baseball schedule, and catcher Joey Bart is catching eyes with his performance so far.

The Buford native is hitting .358/.375/.517 with nine homers and 24 runs batted in through 19 games (81 at bats) for the Yellow Jackets, and rose from 31st to 1st on this week’s catcher ranking.

Last season, Bart was named the 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team, and a member of the NCAA Gainesville Regional All-Tournament team.

Bart was selected by Tampa Bay in the 27th round (808th overall) of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft, but chose to honor his commitment to play at Georgia Tech.
