Mercer’s Lawrence named Atlanta Tipoff Club Women’s College Player of the Year

One Mercer Women’s Basketball player has been racking up the postseason awards, and on Thursday it was a statewide honor for a Bears junior.

Kahlia Lawrence was named the Atlanta Tipoff Club‘s 2017 Georgia Women’s College Player of the Year, it was announced Thursday.

The Columbus native led the Bears to a second consecutive Southern Conference regular season championship and third-straight postseason berth. She was named 2017 SoCon Player of the Year for the second straight season as well.

“This is a tremendous honor for Kahlia; she has worked hard every year she’s been here,” said head coach Susie Gardner said in a release. “Obviously she’s a great scorer and leader on our team, but what people don’t always recognize is that she always defends the best offensive player on the opponent’s team.”
