Recap: Georgia Southern ends season with CBI loss to Utah Valley

The Eagles continued a late skid, losing their fourth straight game to end the season in the CBI first round to a team GSU fans had likely never heard of.

Georgia Southern (18-15) opened the first round of the College Basketball Invitational at home in Statesboro Wednesday, a game that ended in a 74-49 blowout loss to Utah Valley (16-16).

GSU’s points leader in the game was sophomore Montae Glenn, who had 13. Coming into the game, Glenn had only averaged 5.1 points-per-game. He also led his team with eight rebounds on the night. The only other Eagle with double-digit scoring was Ike Smith with 10.

The Wolverines beat the Ealges on the boards with 50 rebounds to GSU’s 31. Utah Valley shot 45.5 percent from the field, and hit 31 percent from beyond the three point line. Both of those stats were significantly greater than Southern could manage.
