Recap: Georgia Tech beats CSU Bakersfield for shot at NIT finals

The Yellow Jackets played in an NIT semifinal game for the first time since 1971 on Tuesday night, and pulled away in the first half for a win over Cal State Bakersfield,

46 years ago, Georgia Tech lost to North Carolina in the National Invitation Tournament finals, and hadn’t made it past the quarterfinals again until this season.

On Tuesday night, the Yellow Jackets took down a hot-shooting CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners team 76-61 to advance to their first NIT finals since Rich Yunkus captained Tech basketball.

Led by a 22-point effort from freshman Josh Okogie, the Yellow Jackets had four players in double figures and shot 43.3 percent on field goals, while holding a hot-shooting CSU Bakersfield team to just 35 percent.

Ben Lammers posted 15 points, five blocks, and 11 rebounds, while senior Quinton Stephens had 13 points and nine rebounds on the night. Tadric Jackson scored a dozen points of his own.

Georgia Tech will play the winner of Texas Christian and Central Florida. The game will be played Thursday night at 8 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. The game will be aired on ESPN. See the full NIT bracket HERE.
