Recap: State edges Southern close in regular season finale

The two GSU’s faced off Saturday to cap the regular season in Sun Belt Conference play in Atlanta, and State came out on top in the end.

Georgia Southern (18-13,11-7 Sun Belt) traveled to Atlanta on Saturday looking to upend Georgia State (19-11, 12-6 Sun Belt) and better their Sun Belt Conference tournament seeding, but the Panthers came out on top.

Southern actually led 32-28 at halftime, but 44 points in the second half by State gave the Panthers a 72-67 win in the end.

Ike Smith led the Eagles with 27 points, while D’Marcus Simonds scored 21 for the Panthers. Smith also led Southern with four rebounds, but was outworked by State’s Jeremy Hollowell, who had a dozen boards for State.
