We are thrilled to unveil the statue of Braves legend Bobby Cox at SunTrust Park!
Already immortalized with a plaque at the Baseball Hall of Fame, legendary Braves manager Bobby Cox now has a likeness outside Atlanta’s new SunTrust Park.
A day ahead of the team’s home opener and first regular season game at SunTrust Park, the Atlanta Braves unveiled a new statue of legendary manager Bobby Cox.
Cox managed the Atlanta Braves from 1978 through 1981, and then again from 1990 through the 2010 season when he retired. With over 2,500 career managerial wins, a World Series title, five National League pennants, and four Manager of the Year awards, Cox was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
The statue presents Cox in his ever-so-common position near the top of the dugout steps, leaning on his left elbow.
In his dedication speech, Cox spoke about words he heard from legendary Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda when he was inducted into the hall of fame. “Tommy congratulated me, he says ‘Bobby, you’ve reached the mountain, you can’t go any higher.’ Today, this statue is right next to that plague on top of that mountain.”
